Neighborhood Centers, Inc. (NCI), provided a comprehensive community center for the Gulfton/Sharpstown neighborhood of Houston. The center offers resources and information to the community through the following: a family education center including classrooms, library, meeting space and an economic development center; a charter school; a park; and a marketplace.
Asakura Robinson Company worked with Concordia, Inc. on the 4.5-acre site to design a multi-use park and a “Marketplace”, a plaza area that will house a community market and an interactive water feature. Other landscape elements include: tree preservation; rainwater collection (used for irrigation and water features); permeable paving; and native planting including edibles.
ARC joined NCI, other team members, the local community and People for Public Spaces at several community workshops to determine the program for the facility.
