This Dow Chemical Company office located in Lake Jackson presented the opportunity to turn a challenge – a sensitive wetland area on the edge of the project site – into a benefit to the building’s patrons. Made up of five buildings including an amenity building, two lab buildings, a central plant, and a warehouse, the design vision was aimed at creating a collaborative work environment while promoting accessibility and connectivity to the wetland areas. With an “H” shape configuration, the campus layout offers employees access to several WiFi enabled outdoor workspaces. Additional outdoor access spots include a café and patio where employees can gaze into the forest just beyond a grassy buffer, or sit on the edge of a recessed area to relax in the sun or shade. The parking lot plantings of muhly, a type of grass, are designed to reduce water consumption by 50%, thereby reducing the need for irrigation and helping the building achieve LEED Silver status.
