This expansion campus, completed in 2003, was built to service the growing community college system in Laredo. The outdoor plaza provides a communal space to accommodate gatherings and outdoor learning while shade-trees also encourage interaction outdoors.
The plaza’s bell tower creates a clearly defined campus entry while the vehicular roadway that loops around campus offers several points of access while restricting automobile flow within the central campus ensuring a pedestrian-friendly environment. The most important landscape architectural issue for LCC was to provide water conservation planting and an irrigation system that work well with the existing maintenance procedures.
