After demolition of the existing facility in January of 2012, the Houston Main Building site, owned by MD Anderson, has been transformed into a simply-designed green space. The unnamed park, features native rain gardens and meadows of native prairie grasses in contrast with the dense urban surroundings. The green space will remain in place for several years until MD Anderson begins construction on a new clinical building. Asakura Robinson created the master plan and planting plan, working closely with local native-plant and prairie expert, Scott Barnes, on the selection of plant materials. Katy Prairie Conservancy volunteers planted the prairie grasses.
